Efforts have been set up to help the young victim's family, but the Consulate General of Guatemala in Houston said their focus is helping with the investigation and urging others to say something.
As detectives continue searching for an 11-year-old girl's killer, the community and the Consulate General of Guatemela in Houston, rallies around her father.. They are still looking for her killer.
"We open at 10 a.m. We close at 10 p.m., and we're here just constantly," she added. "He was working, like everybody else, trying to survive." On Thursday, detectives took Carmelo to the station to help connect him with victim's services - so he could begin making arrangements for his daughter's body. He wants to bring her home to Guatemala, where her mother and younger sister still live.She's set up a small display in front of the store with a donation jar and Maria's photograph.
Castillo also hopes Carmelo will also be able to put the money toward things like rent because he is currently too grief-stricken to work.
