Traffic on I-35 is a familiar part of life here, but a possible bus line between Austin and San Antonio offers the potential for change.Bus transit is critical to San Antonio’s equitable growth. Through either a lack of vision or failure in follow-through, San Antonio has missed opportunities to connect our expanding community with urban and intercity rail or leverage our street investments to encourage bus and bike riding.
Private bus companies offer service between San Antonio, New Braunfels, San Marcos and Austin, with varying destinations and costs. They change locations due to market fluctuations, and smaller companies have fewer requirements for serving passengers with disabilities under the American with Disabilities Act.
The interurban bus proposal leverages the massive infrastructure investments through TxDOT and the thriving bus operations of VIA’s network. Working together is how we can provide more service for the least cost.

Our communities deserve a choice to try small solutions that might grow into big ones. This project is the first vital step toward a better climate.
