Neale 'Bobo' Henderson, a San Diego High graduate and former Kansas City Monarch, used 2007 platform to teach kids a valuable lesson
In 2006, beloved baseball ambassador and Negro League legend John “Buck” O’Neil died at age 94.
When Henderson died in 2018, KUSI sportscaster Brandon Stone reported: “Neale Henderson stopped being Neale Henderson the day his mother let another woman see her baby. She said, ‘Your baby looks like Bobo the Clown.’”Have you ever noticed that ballplayers just don’t have colorful nicknames anymore? A lot of things about baseball have changed.
During the Korean War, while stationed at Fort MacArthur in San Pedro, Henderson appeared on “Art Linkletter’s House Party,” a popular daytime TV show. When the host noted Bobo played on several athletic teams at the Army base, he promptly responded: “Yes, I’m a fullback on the baseball team.”
