The defensive performances, with depleted cast, against Dolphins and Titans were remarkable, and his time management in the Tennessee game was great

I never have changed my mind’s clothes on Brandon Staley’s performance as head coach of The NFL Team That Used To Be Here — you know, the Judases/L.A. Lodgers.

Even then, there are no guarantees the vintage is going to be any good. Shoving the cork back in isn’t going to help. But the chances are much better that it will be drinkable. I haven’t been easy on Staley, now close to ending his sophomore year running the Judases. I’ve admired his willingness to gamble — mostly, although a few of his fourth-down choices were terrible — but still question his offense and, as a defensive guru, Brandon hasn’t always gurued.

Injuries are huge and, in most cases, weak excuses. But, when you lose Pro Bowlers for long periods of time, they can’t be replaced. Justin Herbert’s two best receivers didn’t get on the field together until a few weeks ago.
