Colorado State squandered an early lead and opened Mountain West play with a 44-24 loss to Utah State on Saturday, their fifth straight loss to the Aggies.

After the Rams scored the first 17 points of the game, USU scored 34 straight thanks in part to five Rams turnovers and went on to win by 20 at Maverik Stadium in Logan, Utah.

The defense continued to play well, initially, as TJ Crandall came up with an interception for CSU on the Aggies’ next possession and the Rams capitalized with a 22-yard Vann Schield touchdown run, his second in as many games. CSU’s lead was 17-0 with 9:34 still left in the first quarter. The Aggies scored twice in the third quarter on long touchdown passes and led 31-17 going into the fourth quarter. The hosts then added two more scores, sandwiching a Kobe Johnson TD for CSU.The Rams finished the game with only 320 yards of offense. Quarterback Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi completed 26 of 57 passes for 225 yards with three interceptions. The Rams also lost two fumbles, one from Fowler-Nicolosi.
