Guillermo Botero accused of manipulating report of military airstrike on drug trafficking gang. FMTNews Scandal Resignation
Ivan Duque met with Colombia’s defence minister before the latter announced his resignation.
Botero announced his resignation after a meeting with President Ivan Duque. He faced a censure motion in Congress. The 71-year-old lawyer has been criticised for his limited security experience, even as he oversees defence in a country with a half-century record of armed conflict and which is plagued by drug trafficking.
Botero had previously reported only nine dead, stating at the time that he was “unaware of the presence of minors” and suggesting that all involved were combatants recruited by the guerrillas.
