Division II bracket reveal is Sunday evening; PLNU a potential host site
Point Loma Nazarene capped a dream season this week with a four-game sweep at Fresno Pacific that delivered PLNU’s first PacWest championship and an automatic berth in the NCAA Division II playoffs.
PLNU completed its sweep of Fresno Pacific with Wednesday’s 14-7 and 14-9 victories while Azusa Pacific lost both ends of its doubleheader at Biola by 11-9 and 10-4 scores. Sea Lions senior left-hander/outfielder Baxter Halligan seems an obvious choice for PacWest Player of the Year after leading the conference on the mound with 11 wins and a 2.28 ERA while also batting .333 with eight home runs and 40 RBIs.
The Aztecs lead the Mountain West in pitching with a 4.85 ERA and 464 strikeouts, although they’re last in the conference with a .258 batting average and five runs scored a game.UC San Diego returns to conference play at UC Davis after splitting a midweek nonconference series — winning 3-0 and losing 15-6 — at Oregon.
