PETALING JAYA: Reigning Commonwealth Games champions Vivian Hoo and Chow Mei Kuan may reunite for the Sudirman Cup challenge in Nanning, China from May 19-26.
National women’s doubles head coach Rosman Razak has not ruled out breaking up his two regular pairs – Mei Kuan-Lee Meng Yean and Vivian-Yap Cheng Wen – to form a “winnable” scratch pairing.
They also won the Vietnam International Challenge and Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast in their brief three-month partnership. A point from the women’s doubles could be crucial for the team to make it past the group stage with Malaysia most likely to face India in the battle for a runner-up finish in the Group D, which also comprise 10-time winners China.
Malaysia will have to rely heavily on their doubles players to win if they are to avenge their defeat to India in the team event final at last year’s Commonwealth Games.“We know that the team are counting on the women’s doubles to deliver one of the points against India,” said Rosman. “There will be pressure for sure but I have faith in my players.”
