Minnesota State Patrol officers arrested CNN Correspondent Omar Jimenez, and his crew, while live on air covering the 3rd night of violent protests in Minneapolis
CNNJimenez, his producer and the cameraman were handcuffed and arrested in the middle of a live report with CNN’s New Day around 5am local time.
The video of the arrest shared live on CNN, and Twitter show Jimenez reporting from an intersection that had been cleared by police officers. Jimenez identifies himself as working for CNN, and asks the officers where his crew should move back to when police step forward to restrain him. CNN anchors Alisyn Camerota and John Berman express surprise as the still rolling camera is picked up by a police officer and placed on the ground.“My experience has been the opposite of what Omar just experienced there. Talking to police I identified myself, I told them who I was with, and they said you are permitted to be in this area” said CNN correspondent Josh Campbell, who was also reporting from the Minneapolis protests.
