OPINION: The sky won't fall in if a cashless gaming card is brought in, writes Deborah Knight. 9News
is only backing a trial of a cashless gaming card and is losing support among a lot of traditional Labor voters for not taking a more determined stance on poker machine reform.
That determination will now be hardened by the appalling behaviour of the now former CEO of ClubsNSW Josh Landis, when he said the premier was acting on his "conservative Catholic gut" and ignoring the evidence when it comes to pokies reform.Perrottet was spot on in saying that if the faith of a Jewish or Muslim person had been used against them in the same way, the ClubsNSW CEO would be out of a job in an instant.
The announcement this week by ClubsNSW of a code of conduct as an argument against the need for more rules and regulations was also a desperate act. These are measures that should be enforced already - without the threat of a cashless gaming card prompting hollow claims of action. The clubs and pubs will adapt, and the poker machine users who don't have gambling problems will get used to the new system.
