Leinster club hurling championship is wide open with some plum football ties across Ulster and Munster on a huge weekend of GAA
With the Leinster club hurling championship blown wide open by the exit of back-to-back All-Ireland champions, Ballyhale Shamrocks and Down’s Kilcoo on the march the action really ramps up this weekend.Traditional big guns like Crossmaglen and St. Brigid’s, newbies including Na Fianna and Coolera Strandhill are in action. Then there are the multitude of teams who will feel they have unfinished business in the provincial club championships.
They’re one of the great entertainers of club football with huge talents like Sean O’Connor, Michael Quinlivan and Jack Kennedy. They have ‘strong man’ contender Mike McMahon at full forward and the likes of former All-Star nominees Cian Sheehan and Iain Corbett, who went off in the County final with a hamstring problem but came back on.The winner meets the Kerry champions, Dingle in the semi-final.Eight Leinster hurling sides are in action this weekend and every single one, if they’ve even thought that far ahead, will feel they could win a provincial title.
From statements refuting awful online allegations of verbal abuse to rows in front of the dug out and videos of disciplinary incidents in games, it’s been a controversial few months for the Magpies. And under Karl Lacey they’ve added a far greater range of point kicking to their already impressive game.
The same can be said of Westmeath’s Raharney with their Doyle contingent - Tommy, Killian and Ciaran.
