GEORGE TOWN: Cloud seeding will be carried out but the real source of haze still needs to be addressed, says Deputy Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change Minister Isnaraissah Munirah Majilis.

GEORGE TOWN: Cloud seeding will be carried out but the real source of haze still needs to be addressed, says Deputy Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change Minister Isnaraissah Munirah Majilis.“What is important is that we address the source of the haze so that we can stop it from recurring, ” she said at a press conference after flagging off the “Kimia Heritage Run 110 Years” at Esplanade yesterday.

She said cloud seeding was supposed to be carried out yesterday but it could only be done today due to unfavourable atmospheric and cloud conditions. She said it will only be carried out in Selangor and parts of the peninsula because the northern region has been getting good API readings since Saturday. She said Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change Minister Yeo Bee Yin and other Malaysian representatives had met with Indonesian Embassy officials to raise their concerns about the haze.

“At the meeting on Sept 10, we raised our concerns about the issue and offered the Indonesian government aid in easing the forest fires.“This is not about pointing fingers at any countries but coming together to solve the problem as it cannot be a one-man show, ” she added. Isnaraissah said they hoped the source, which is the forest fires, could be addressed to halt the recurring haze.
