A new study by Boston Consulting Group found that supporting female entrepreneurs could increase the GDP

Closing the entrepreneurial gender gap could increase the global GDP by $2.5 trillion to $5 trillion, according to a newby Boston Consulting Group. The coauthors, Shalini Unnikrishnan and Cherie Blair, analyzed female entrepreneurship data from the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor to understand the impact of the gap between the number of male and female entrepreneurs both regionally and country by country and, importantly, actionable ways to close it.

The goal isn’t just to close the gender gap in the number of men and women who start businesses. It’s crucial to provide the support that helps female founded businesses succeed. Even if men and women start businesses at the same rate, the next step is to make sure female founded companies are supported because, in all regions except North America, the researchers found that women-led companies are less likely to stay in business.
