Billionaire Clive Palmer has launched another court action over his iron ore interests in Western Australia’s Pilbara. Former Morrison government attorney-general Christian Porter is listed as one of nine lawyers in Palmer’s legal team.
Attorney-General Mark Dreyfus says the Commonwealth will vigorously defend a $US200 billion damages claim by Queensland mining billionaire Clive Palmer over the West Australian government laws to stop an earlier damages claim over a stalled Pilbara iron ore project.
The notice is seeking $US198 billion in damages plus costs and interest under international trade law.“The Commonwealth will work with Western Australia to ensure Australia’s interests are protected,” she said. As part of the second arbitration, Palmer sought $30 billion in damages from the state of WA, which prompted theThis law terminated the arbitration, voided any awards granted to Palmer and his firms, and prevented the state from having any liability towards the billionaire in related disputes.
“On a day when my attorney-general has introduced very important legislation in this parliament, the former attorney-general of the former government ... is a part of Clive Palmer’s operation to sue the WA government for $300 billion. $300 billion,” he said.
