STRONGSVILLE, Ohio — In an up and down year to start the Jason Trusnik era of Strongsville football, the Mustangs came together in all three phases of the game for a signature win against Cleveland Heights, 28-6, on Friday night.
“The defense plays their butt off, all year we’ve been getting better each and every game and they play hard, play physical and swarm to the football,” Trusnik said. “Honestly, it’s a lot of doing the little thing right and coming together and they did that and played a great game tonight.” “That’s the kind of defense we play swarming to the ball, we play 11 guys to the ball every play and we practice that every single day and Coach Trusnik, he runs such a good defense and he preaches it every week and the whole week was about believing and I think we executed the game plan.”While the defense was taking care of business with Davis and the Tigers’ offense, senior quarterback Nolan Beard was supplying the Mustangs offense with points on a potent mix of run and pass.
Right after the Davis long run cut the Mustangs’ lead to 14-6, Trusnik called on Beard to respond with his arm, and the veteran obliged with a perfect ball to an open Braelin Dally for a finger-tip grab in the elements. It tilted the game toward the Mustangs the rest of the way.“Nolan is growing as we look to him, it’s a new offense for everybody and we’re only six games in,” Trusnik said. “Everyone’s getting a little bit more comfortable as we move forward and it was a great connection.
The win not only brings the Mustangs to .500 on the year , but will be a nice boost in computer points with the playoffs a few weeks away.Despite a couple of setbacks this season, Miller said that their goals are still on the table and even after a couple of tough losses this team can still surprise teams.
