Right-hander Cal Quantrill and utility man David Fry were activated from the injured list Friday. Quantrill will start against the Rays on Friday night.
Teams expanded their rosters to 28 players on Friday. They are allowed to carry 14 pitchers. Until Friday teams were limited to carrying 13 pitchers.The Angels placed six players on waivers on Wednesday. The Guardians claimed Lopez, Moore and Giolito. They are familiar with Giolio and Lopez from their days with the White Sox.
The Guardians could have added outfielders Hunter Renfro or Randall Grichuk from the Angels, but they went with the pitchers because they knew they were going to activate Fry on Friday and DH-1B Josh Naylor is expected to be activated early next week.
