A panel that will recommend selections for a powerful new 13-member Community Police Commission to bolster accountability in Cleveland has begun interviewing 27 finalists for the positions.

The charter amendment requires that commission members be “broadly representative of the racial, social, economic, and cultural interests of the community, including those of the racial-minority, immigrant/refugee, LGBTQ+, youth, faith, business, and other communities, to reflect the overall demographics of Cleveland residents.”
The membership also must include representatives from specific groups, such as civil rights organizations, people who have been directly impacted by police violence , people impacted by gun violence and a limited number of people with police backgrounds.Bibb will nominate 10 members of the group. Cleveland City Council will nominate three.That number was whittled down to 27 people selected for interviews.
