Clerk’s appeal in ‘basikal lajak’ case fixed for March 31

Sam’s counsel, Harvinderjit Singh, said the date was fixed after case management by the Court of Appeal’s deputy registrar, Norkamilah Aziz. “The parties have informed her that the appeal records have been received and Sam has filed her petition of appeal,” he told FMT.Deputy public prosecutor Fairuz Johari represented the public prosecutor, the respondent in the appeal.
High Court judge Abu Bakar Katar had meted out the jail sentence and fine against Sam on April 13 after allowing the prosecution’s appeal to set aside the decision of the magistrates’ court on Oct 10 last year to acquit and discharge her. He also ordered Sam to be jailed for six months if she failed to pay the fine, and imposed a three-year driving ban upon completion of her prison term.
