Chicago’s 2022 CityArts Program has awarded 280 financial grants.

With funding of $6.5 million, Chicago’s 2022 CityArts Program has awarded 280 financial grants to Chicago nonprofit arts organizations, according to an announcement Monday from Mayor Lori Lightfoot and the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events .

The CityArts dollar amount has increased from $1.7 million in 2021, according the statement, “owing to the city’s significant new investments in arts and culture.” The grants included more than a dozen project grants aligned with 2022′s Year of Chicago Dance and also increase in size for 2022, from one-time grants topping out at $25,000 in 2021 to $10,000 to $50,000 grants renewable for one year.

Ballet Folklorico de Chicago, for a project to model an event in the annual Arts in the Dark Parade in October after a Day of the Dead tradition in Mexico; also a grant to LUMA8 for the parade.A range of Chicago theaters including Porchlight, Pride Films and Plays, Free Street, Teatro Vista, Steep, TimeLine, Theatre Y and UrbanTheater Company.
