While Bergh the robot dog patrolled the ground, the FDNY and NYPD drones were the eyes in the sky.

City leaders say technology helped keep first responders safe and speed up the process of assessing the damage.Though its primary use is incidents with hazardous materials, the 70-pound dog's skills were on display for the first time in the moments following the garage collapse.

So the team sent Bergh inside the collapsed four-story garage, live streaming, using its thermal camera to look for people who may be trapped. It was a task too risky for first responders at the time.
