The residents claimed that the awnings were installed to prevent the rubbish and food waste thrown from upper floors from getting into their units. “Our office at the PPR will be monitoring the situation and while we are willing to give and take on this issue, it is the responsibility of all the residents to work together to keep the place clean,” it added.“We issued the directive to send a clear message to residents to practise better hygiene and keep the common area of the flats clean.
“Since the problem still persists, the Community Development and Urban Well-being Department decided to order the removal of the awnings once and for all,” it had said, adding that it was a safety issue.
