Chucky season 3 executive producer Alex Hedlund discusses the inspiration for the White House setting and the legends surrounding the building.

The third season promises to be the most terrifying yet, with Chucky making his way to the White House.
Alex Hedlund: So, everything starts with Don. Don and the writers. They get into the room and they just jam on these amazing ideas. It's so much fun to sort of hear what they come up with and how ideas take shape. The idea of the White House came from Don when we were wrapping up season two. He pitched it and I was like, "Oh, that's really interesting.
This season's described as The Shining meets House of Cards with Chucky at the center of it. Can you talk about some of the things we're going to explore? Even in the first episode, there's a little nod to the house being haunted. How much research did you guys do on that side of the White House that we don't usually get to see?
There's been so many great shows, like West Wing, that really paint a picture of what that workplace looks like. And we wanted that to really be feathered more into the background so that we could focus on the family dynamics and really show this is a family that is struggling with grief, with loss, and obviously in the public eye. So it makes healing all the more challenging.
Alex Hedlund: Yeah. I think that it all starts with Don who really wants to, I don't want to say reinvent the show every season, but there is certainly a kind of anthological component to every season. It should feel close-ended, but ideally it is a continuation of the character storylines and whatever Chucky is doing, but never repeating himself or making it obvious that we're going along with some kind of a formula.
