Datuk Seri Christina Liew, former Sabah Pakatan Harapan chairman, aims to regain her position through ongoing discussions within the coalition. Her potential return follows a close election loss to Datuk Ewon Benedick in December 2022.

Former Sabah Pakatan Harapan chairman Datuk Seri Christina Liew could soon reclaim her leadership post if ongoing discussions yield positive results. The Api-Api PKR chief revealed that the matter is still in the process, hinting at a possible leadership reshuffle within Sabah Pakatan. Liew was unseated by United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (Upko) president Datuk Ewon Benedick during the coalition's annual general meeting on Dec 1, losing by just three votes.

Benedick's term runs until 2026. Liew said that the appointment of the state coalition chief is ultimately at the discretion of Pakatan chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Speaking after a welcome dinner for PKR vice-president Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad on Thursday (Dec 19), the Sabah Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister said the matter was discussed with PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during the recent PKR Congress in Kuala Lumpur. We also deliberated on this within the PKR state leadership council's political bureau. For now, the process is ongoing. Just be patient, things will work out,' she told reporters. Meanwhile, in his speech, Nik Nazmi urged Sabah PKR to ramp up their preparations for the state polls due by September 2025. PKR's priority is to ensure political stability, especially since we lead the government at both federal and state levels. Over the next 10 months, strengthening our election machinery is crucial. There's no point in winning party elections if we lose the state election,' he said. Nik Nazmi reaffirmed PKR's commitment to addressing poverty and unresolved issues related to the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63)
