The arrest and arraignment of Donald Trump on the Tuesday of Holy Week have drawn a number of comparisons to the Passion of Jesus Christ, despite a number of Christians warning against making such comparisons.

The comparisons began last month when news leaked that a New York grand jury indictment of Trump for allegedly falsifying business records was imminent. But with the former president surrendering to authorities for his arraignment on the Tuesday of Holy Week —when Christians commemorate the events of the Passion of Jesus Christ — the comparisons reached a fever pitch.

"Nelson Mandela was arrested, served time in prison," she said."Jesus! Jesus was arrested and murdered.” Terry Schilling, the president of the American Principles Project, a conservative advocacy group, said Trump would be better compared to comic book superheroes such as Batman rather than Jesus Christ.
