Ready for a full season, Christian Harris tries to 'run like a cheetah' in Texans' defense
Harris knows he was partly responsible. Ryans was instantly relatable, Harris says. They met for the first time briefly in February in the NRG Stadium hallway after Harris finished an offseason lift session. Harris says Ryans looks like he “can still play” himself. Ryans regularly instructs the linebackers in practice, and Harris says the coach with a “swole” frame still has “a little burst” when he’s “moving out there on the field.”The relatability lends credibility.
Ryans will still sometimes pop into position group meetings or teach techniques and tendencies during individual drills at practice. But he arrives with a purpose: to ensure the group has a full understanding of the defense. Harris says they’ve made their way through the playbook, a scheme the second-year linebacker says is more relatable to what he played in at Alabama.
“I can play a little faster,” he says. “I feel like I’m a little more comfortable and reading things on the field and seeing what’s going on.”
