Prior to jetting out to King Charles' coronation in London, Prime Minister Chris Hipkins has indicated his support for New Zealand becoming a republic.

Speaking to reporters before departing for King Charles III’s coronation, Mr Hipkins said in time New Zealand will become a “fully independent” nation."Ideally, in time, New Zealand will become a fully independent country, will stand on our own two feet in the world, as we by and large do now,” he said on Monday.

Mr Hipkins’ predecessor, Jacinda Ardern, also stated her desire for New Zealand to become a republic one day.
