CHP: Foul play not suspected after body found in Logan Heights brush fire burn area [Breaking]
The body of a man was found at the site of an extinguished brush fire in Logan Heights Friday, but investigators do not suspect foul play caused the death, California Highway Patrol officials said.
The fire that led to the discovery of the decomposing body was reported around 10:50 a.m. on Imperial Avenue west of state Route 15, CHP Officer Jesse Matias said. The fire, which burned a 20-by-30-foot area on the side of the road, was put out within minutes of the firefighters arriving on the scene, said Jose Ysea, a spokesman with the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department. While sorting through the burned debris, firefighters found the body in what appeared to be a tent, authorities said.Matias said the county Medical Examiner’s Office will release information on the man’s identity. Matias added the tent may have been a homeless encampment.
Investigators believe the man had been dead for at least two days, but foul play is not suspected, Matias said.Staff writer Caleb Lunetta contributed to this report.
