A handful of pets are up for adoption at Valley shelters. To check the status of a specific animal, please contact the shelter directly.

Every year, approximately 6.5 million companion animals enter shelters nationwide, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Of those, about 3.3 million are dogs and 3.2 million are cats.

Chowder is a very loving boy who was extremely shy at first but has come out of his shell and shown himself to be a bouncy, wiggly and happy pup. Always the first to give his favorite people a smile, the best home for this pointy-eared doggo would be one where he is the only pet in the home as other four-legged friends cause him great stress.

This 6- year-old beauty has a mind of her own and likes things done her way. For instance, she looks for petting but only around her head and especially her chin, but not the usual back rubs kitties like. Sometimes she just wants to be left alone, but that’s OK … people are like that too. She is agreeable to being picked up and brushed but will let you know when she has had enough. She lived for years with another cat but really prefers to be a loner.

It became obvious very quickly he wasn't acting like a"normal" puppy. He began feeling very sick and his foster parents took him to the vet many times. He was tested for many illnesses and was diagnosed with parainfluenza, pneumovirus, K9 coronavirus, and adenovirus. He was prescribed lots of fluids, but his condition continued to worsen. The doctor tested him a second time for distemper, and although he had tested negative the first time, his second test was positive.
