Chot Reyes is used to adversity as a Gilas coach that he has learned to adjust on the fly.
Considering that the Gilas pool has been hit by injuries, Reyes is now using the 2023 Heyuan WUS International Basketball Tournament as an opportunity to experiment on the point guard position.With Scottie Thompson still rehabbing his shooting hand owing to a metacarpal fracture he sustained in Gilas' Europe training camp, the 60-year-old coach has 'converted' CJ Perez to point guard to see if he'll fit in that position.
The Gilas mentor said tapping Perez to do the playmaking chores is a backup plan in case Thompson, the reigning PBA Most Valuable, won't be ready for the 2023 FIBA World Cup.'Remember, he is our starting point guard. Right now we are preparing for eventuality in case he doesn't make it so we are trying CJ to be the backup,' explained Reyes, who turned 60 last week.
