The school community organized a memorial for 16-year-old Angel Hernandez, a sophomore student who collapsed during a 5k race at a meet.

“He always came with a great attitude and a smile. He was just a wonderful person to be around,” Gifford said. “I’m gonna miss him, and he will be forever in my heart.” “I know he was there, because after we finished running, six of our seven athletes ran our season best,” Gifford said. “I know Angel was there pushing his team.”
Ashley Wood, his longtime karate coach, described him as a kind person with a lot of faith. Wood said she considered him her son.
