China detained two Canadians – former diplomat Michael Kovrig and businessman Michael Spavor – days later in apparent retaliation, with both men now facing espionage-related accusations. “Canada arbitrarily detained a citizen of a third country … and is cooperating with the US to cook up the Meng Wanzhou incident,” he added.
