China has issued pointed remarks about 'regional peace and security' in response to Australia's announcement it will acquire 40 Black Hawk helicopters from the United States.
China has issued a stern message to Australia over its decision to acquire dozens of UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters to"meet the strategic needs" of the army.
"When having defence and security cooperation, countries must always make sure that such cooperation contributes to regional peace and stability and does not target any third party or come at other countries' expense," Mr Wang told reporters on Wednesday. "The Black Hawk will support the deployment of our troops and their equipment where they are needed in times of crisis. The Black Hawk is a reliable, proven and mature platform supported by a robust global supply chain.
"The reason we've decided to go with the Black Hawks and to transition away from the Taipans is because really, over the course of the last decade, we've struggled in terms of getting the hours out of the Taipans that we would want, both with maintenance and having spare parts available," Defence Minister Richard Marles told ABC Radio National on Wednesday.
