Chinese President Xi Jinping will head to Moscow for a three-day state visit with Russian President Vladimir Putin next week in which talks are expected to focus heavily on the war in Ukraine.

The announcement of the state visit — long anticipated in press reports — was made simultaneously in Moscow and Beijing on Friday. According to the Kremlin's spokesperson, talks get underway Monday afternoon with the bulk of discussions to follow on Tuesday. Putin has eagerly sought China's backing as relations with the West have collapsed over Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
