China is set to lift sanctions on imports of Australian hay, which has been described as another"positive step forward" for agriculture and trade relations between the two countries.
On Thursday afternoon the federal government confirmed that Australian hay exports to China were set to resume, but Trade Minister Don Farrell said there is more work to be done. "I will continue to persevere and press for all outstanding impediments to be removed as soon as possible."Agriculture Minister Murray Watt said the development was"more good news for Aussie farmers".
"We are working hard to remove the existing impediments and restrictions on other important commodities like beef, wine and lobster." At the time of the announcement, Foreign Minister Penny Wong described the move as the"right outcome" for both countries. The trade barriers on barely since 2020 have blocked almost $1 billion of annual imports into the Chinese market.
