... thanks Pope Francis
Maybe the pope just needs to get a dog? Photo: Alberto Pizzoli/AFP via Getty Images As a little holiday treat to himself, the pope decided to scold people who decide not have children. In an address Wednesday, per The Guardian, Pope Francis said not having kids is “a form of selfishness.” He specifically called out people who have pets but no children, something he claims is “a denial of fatherhood and motherhood and diminishes us, takes away our humanity.
“We see that some people do not want to have a child,” he said. “Sometimes they have one, and that’s it, but they have dogs and cats that take the place of children. This may make people laugh, but it is a reality.
What about people who are physically unable to have children? What say Francis then? Well, he wants to know if you’ve heard of a little thing called adoption? Hmmm? The pope told people “not to be afraid” of becoming parents as “having a child is always a risk, but there is more risk in not having a child.” As we all know, the only reason people decide not to have children is just because they’re a little scared.
Of course, this isn’t the first time the pope has spoken out against people who have pets but no children. In a 2014 interview with an Italian newspaper, according to the The Guardian, Francis said having pets instead of children was “another phenomenon of cultural degradation.” So, c’mon, you degraded, childless creeps, just have babies already! But not him, though. Definitely not him.
