Chicago Bears wide receiver Chase Claypool said there were 'a lot of lessons learned and a lot of progress made' during a week of intense scrutiny.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Shaquil Barrett intercepts the ball before running it in for a touchdown during the fourth quarter against the Chicago Bears at Raymond James Stadium, Sept. 17, 2023 in Tampa.

When Bears general manager Ryan Poles spoke to Bears announcer Jeff Joniak on the pregame radio show Sunday, his answer to an inquiry about Claypool certainly sounded like an ultimatum for the player Poles decided last November was worth a second-round draft pick. Whether Claypool answered it in an up-and-down, still-not-good-enough performance for the entire offense remains a question.

But the production was enough to prompt Claypool to speak with reporters after the game, which he had avoided in the locker room the entire week after the Packers game. “There’s good games and bad games, and if you highlight all the bad plays in the game, it makes it look worse than it was,” Claypool said when asked about his performance against the Packers. “It’s easy to point out bad things. But they get paid a lot of money, too, and they’re going to make plays. Those are plays I want back, and I want to make all those plays, but it’s an unrealistic expectation.

The Bears then kept Claypool active Sunday instead of Equanimeous St. Brown, a receiver known for his blocking ability.
