The Bears are going to target WR pretty heavily this offseason, including on Day 2 of the 2022 NFL Draft. BryanPerezNFL takes a closer look at Romeo Doubs and why he'd be a nice fit for Chicago. FrontOffice33 | NFLDraft | DaBears
Doubs, who checked in at just under 6-foot-2 and 204 pounds at the Senior Bowl weigh-ins, had a strong showing in Mobile, Alabama. He displayed his twitchy athleticism as a route-runner during the week of practices and was able to defeat some of the nation’s top cornerbacks downfield.
Doubs’ combination of size and long speed is the type of weapon the Bears’ offense is missing opposite Darnell Mooney, who’s a field-flipper in his own right but doesn’t have the kind of frame to bully defensive backs. Doubs does. Doubs enjoyed a career year for the Wolfpack in 2021. He finished the season with 80 catches for 1,109 yards and 11 touchdowns and proved to be one of the top playmakers in the country. He finished the year with eight touchdowns of 20 or more yards.
Doubs currently has a third-round grade from TDN scout Drae Harris and is ranked 139th in TDN’s 2022 NFL Draft player rankings. Doubs has some work to do to earn a second-round valuation, but if he runs really well at the 2022 NFL Scouting Combine, the buzz around him as a day-two pick will grow louder.
Chicago has two picks on day two: Nos. 39 and 71. Right now, Doubs is a better value with the second of those two picks, but keep a close eye on how he performs at the combine and his pro day; if he knocks it out of the park, he won’t be considered a reach in the top 50 selections. And with how he’d fill the Bears’ need for a big outside playmaker in the passing game, a Fields-to-Doubs combination is a very real possibility.
