KUALA LUMPUR: The state of shoebox rooms being rented out at a shoplot in Taman Maluri, Cheras, was shocking, even for the seasoned enforcement officers.The four-storey building, with its ground floor serving as a shop, had three upper levels partitioned into 78 shoebox rooms.

MELAKA: The nation’s oldest functioning place of worship, the Cheng Hoon Teng Temple in Jalan Tokong here is celebrating its 350th anniversary by showcasing its proud heritage.

“Hence, we searched all the records available to preserve the cultural heritage when organising the anniversary with an aim to connect the current generation to their ancestral roots,” he said in an interview here on Friday . Chan said the five-day event, which started on Wednesday and ends on Sunday , has so far seen some 500 overseas devotees attending the slew of events lined up to commemorate the temple's anniversary.

“It has been a span of 90 years since the last event was held and with the assistance of over 100 volunteers, we were able to preserve the temple’s tradition in this year’s celebration including offering an array of customary items to the deities,” he said.
