The price of eggs has increased due to the Avian Flu attack in SA, and some retailers introduced new rules regarding purchasing of eggs.
The price of eggs and other chicken products has increased due to the Avian Flu attack in South Africa which has resulted in the death of more than 7 million chickens.
This disease started to attack the country in 2017, but it has been slowing down. Its latest outbreak occurred in April, now there are two viruses, H5 and H7, which led to a significant decrease in chickens because the ones that had this disease were killed by others.Last weekend, the prices increased a lot which led to panic among customers because many families rely on them to get protein nutrients.
A statement from Shoprite and Checkers said that their customers are allowed to buy eggs as they wish.It is not only eggs that are in short supply when this flu strikes, chicken meat is also in short supply because a lot of broiler chickens have died, but the Ministry of Agriculture in this country said that there is currently no shortage of meat and there is a plan to buy it from abroad.
