The stadium truly needed a facelift.
Back in July, it was announced that the Selangor government had appointed the Malaysian Resources Corporation Berhad to refurbish Shah Alam Stadium and the surrounding sporting facility for RM787 million.
MRCB group managing director Imran Salim said the existing structures would be torn down to resolve the flash flood issue in the stadium. A new moveable pitch will be built instead. The new pitch will sit within the stadium bowl with a fixed roof on a raised platform. It’ll have its own irrigation system, which will negate the use of surface drainage. This also allows spectators to be closer to the action on the pitch.
Outside the stadium, there would be wide walkways, open green areas, shaded access to different modes of transportation, retail space and other sports and multi-use facilities to bring in visitors and make the venue self-sustaining.
