A former U.S. congressman built the Versailles-inspired mansion
The most expensive home on the market in Charlotte, North Carolina, is this newly listed Versailles-inspired country club residence asking $8.75 million.
Styled after an 18th-century chateau, the property “epitomizes grandeur and attention to detail,” according to the listing with Linwood Bolles and Valérie Dulude of Premier Sotheby’s International Realty’s Charlotte office, which put the home on the market on Monday. The home is being sold by Robert Pittenger, a former U.S. congressman, and his wife, Suzanne. Pittenger, 75, a Republican who was the representative for North Carolina’s 9th congressional district from 2013 to 2019. They acquired the underlying property for $1.675 million in 2006, records with PropertyShark show. The house was built in 2009. The Pittengers couldn’t be reached for comment.
A marble-floored foyer with a soaring ceiling and a sweeping staircase leads into the home, which boasts wall paneling, ornate moldings and columns.
