The city’s most famous hotels, including Sofitel London St James, are in preparation mode for the coronation of King Charles.

The coronation of King Charles and Camilla, the Queen Consort, will take place at Westminster Abbey on Saturday, May 6. Aside from the looming question of how Harry and Meghan will play the big day, the coronation is intriguing given the Windsors are the only European royal family that still has an “unction”, the act of anointing a monarch with holy oil.

Five-star hotels like the Sofitel London St James are already gearing up for the big push come early May.Even early birds are paying £254 a night for an average room that would have cost £154 on the same day last year.
