ChargEV has launched a new DC charging hub in Malaysia, featuring 16 charge points and unique features like trickle charging and compact charging nozzles.
Unlike typical locations that may have a few DC charge points, ChargEV has deployed a total of 16x DC charge points, making this one of the largest DC charging hubs in Malaysia. The new location utilises two clusters of chargers with 8x DC charge points located in Parking Zone A and another 8x DC charge points in Parking Zone B. The chargers are already turned on as part of their trial period and users can activate them using the ChargEV app.
We got 65kW yesterday when there were about 6 other EVs plugged in. The price during the trial is quite pricey and we got from 25-80% charge for about RM59. Hopefully, ChargEV will offer consumers tiered pricing based on required charging rate and duration. This is to cater to different user requirements such as a quick 15-minute top up while grabbing coffee or buying groceries or an hour parking while having a meal. What makes this DC charging site interesting is that the eLoaded DC Grid system actually starts to trickle charge with less than 5kW before you even activate the charger. This is also a good way for consumers to verify that the charge point is working before they activate to unlock full power. According to the ChargEV app, the trickle charge will start charging for 5 minutes. If you do not activate the charger, the trickle charge will stop automatically and you will be able to unplug the charger. Another unique feature is the skinny free-standing eLiix DC nozzles which is currently considered as the smallest high-powered DC charging station. These are individual flexible satellite terminals that are connected to an eLoaded power cabinet. Each of this terminals occupy about 10×10 cm ground surface area and there are indicator lights on the top to indicate charging status. ChargEV is deploying more EV charging sites with this solution and we recently spotted another huge deployment at Johor Premium Outlets in Johor
