‘I love it, I’m so excited to be back,’ the left tackle said of joining his teammates for OTAs after undergoing biceps surgery in late September

COSTA MESA — It was a move Rashawn Slater probably made thousands of times, but this time something went seriously wrong. He tore his biceps tendon while performing the routine act of blocking a Jacksonville player duringand it was determined that it would be best if he sat out the rest of the season. As it turned out, he was sidelined for the season’s final 15 games, including the Chargers’ come-from-ahead 31-30 loss to the Jaguars in the playoffs Jan. 14.“It was very close,” he said.

Slater said his offseason workouts with Dallas-based offensive line guru Duke Manyweather have gone well, and he’s been joined by Chargers teammates Trey Pipkins III and Foster Sarell. Manyweather is a Los Angeles-area native who played on the line at Humboldt State and now tutors linemen. It’s expected that Slater will regain his starting spot at left tackle when the season begins, with Zion Johnson flipping to left guard from right guard, Corey Linsley maintaining his spot at center, Jamaree Salyer going from left tackle to right guard and Pipkins remaining at right tackle.
