Raiders running back Josh Jacobs rushed for 144 yards and one touchdown on 26 carries, showing exactly why he’s the NFL’s leading rusher.
LAS VEGAS — In the end, the Chargers didn’t have an answer for Las Vegas Raiders running back Josh Jacobs. Sometimes they hemmed him in, surrounded him and thumped him to the turf Sunday at Allegiant Stadium. Other times, they watched him break tackles and gain big yardage.and Jacobs had rushed for 144 yards and one touchdown on 26 carries, showing exactly why he’s the NFL’s leading rusher.
Jacobs darted through the Chargers’ defense on his touchdown run, untouched as he raced into the end zone with 7:52 left in the half. The Raiders had managed little offensively up to that point, but then they began to dominate the line play and Jacobs ran around and through tacklers. “I thought we played well early,” Chargers coach Brandon Staley said of defending Jacobs. “I thought there were some missed tackles in the second half, which led to most of his yards. I thought we were in good run structures but missing tackles. He forces people to miss.”
Asked how frustrated he was to see so many missed tackles, Staley said, “No one is out there trying to miss. He’s a good back and that’s going to happen. I really felt like we defended well in the first half outside of a couple of misses. In the second half, it was a little up and down.
