After retiring from civil service in Singapore in 2018, Terence Singh found his carpentry hobby even more fulfilling as it was a way to keep himself occupied and even make some money during the pandemic.
One way to do this is by taking up a new hobby or revisiting a dormant hobby to stay productive and maintain good mental health.
“I like to see how things are done. For example, I will snap a photo of a piece of wooden furniture, and see how I can improve it myself. “If I can get paid for something I like doing, why not?” he said, adding that the woodworking was only done in his free time. “Even the off-cut wood is useful. I don’t throw it away as it can be used to make other things,” he said.
“I first ask myself if I can make the item I want to purchase,” said Eiran, who is the chief executive officer of his own marketing communications company.The De Rozario brothers are also keen anglers, and Wayne has even made his own fishing lures out of wood. “I would flip through them until they fell apart, but now with technology, everything is available over the Internet.”“We just have to be grateful for the business we have now so that we can stay afloat.”For Thenmoly Manickam, 32, the pandemic has taught her to manage her time wisely.The talent management and organisational development manager loves capturing intricate facial features of people in her paintings.
For business owner Jesz Cheah Sheau Toung, 38, a designer and accountant, her creativity has developed into vibrant and intricate wall art.
