Treasurer Jim Chalmers has shut down suggestions the government could look to adjust the GST rate, as he revealed proposed changes to petrol and resources tax would be published on Monday.

The last of those, updating the tax on petrol and resources, has been flagged by the government as the next subject of legislation, with Mr Chalmers revealing details about proposed changes would be published on Monday. In an apparent effort to stave off similar gridlock which has paralysed the government's housing policy, the Treasurer said he was unveiling the reforms in"good faith" in the hope the Greens and opposition would back the proposed changes.
"If the Greens want the industry to pay more tax sooner, then they'll vote for our legislation. And if the Coalition want the model, which first guarantees supply and best safeguards, our international relationships, they'll vote for it as well.
