The Treasurer’s recently published “left-wing populist” manifesto is a sharp turn from the economic policy promised to Australians at the election, shadow treasurer Angus Taylor has argued.
Dr Chalmers recently penned a 6000-word essay for The Monthly, titled ‘Capitalism after the Crises’.

Offer ends 31 October, 2023 Mr Taylor hit back at the essay when speaking to Sky News’ Peta Credlin on Monday night, arguing it put “the government at the centre of the economy, not Australians.”The shadow treasurer said the manifesto was “Whitlam-esque” rather than the “inheritance of Hawke and Keating”. In an editorial written for The Australian, Mr Taylor termed the Treasurer’s proposal as “left-wing populist economics”.
