Chabat of Naperville held tefellin, candle-lighting and prayer services for Israel Friday night at its Abrams Center for Jewish Life.
Saturday marked the start of the second week of fighting in the war between Israel and Hamas, the military group that controls the neighboring Gaza Strip, which launched a surprised attack on Israel on Oct. 7. In a Jewish religious practice, a tefellin is a black leather cube-shaped case containing Torah texts written on parchment. One is attached to the arm facing the heart and the other on the forehead.
