General Motors CEO Mary Barra says the company will make a full-size electric pickup truck as part of an “all-electric future” that will include a complete range of EVs
instead invested $500 million in the company, GM chairman and CEO Mary Barra said the automaker will have an EV truck of its own to compete.
“GM has an industry-leading truck franchise and industry-leading electrification capabilities,” Barra said. “I assure you we will not cede our leadership on either front. We intend to create an all-electric future that includes a complete range of EVs, including full-size pickups.”, a small hatchback that is also used by its self-driving car unit GM Cruise. But it doesn’t have any EV crossovers, SUVs and trucks.
Since debuting a long-range electric pickup and SUV last year, Rivian has attracted a lot of enthusiasm and investment interest. The company previously snagged a $700 million investment from Amazon.com last year. The online retailer sees the start-up as a long-term investment in using its EV tech for Amazon delivery trucks in the future.
